Whats is a NRI Voter Card ? 

The voter identity card of a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) that enables him or her to be registered as a voter in India is called an NRI Voter Card. It is officially known as the Overseas Electors Voter Identification, which grants the right to the Indian citizens abroad to have their names added in the electoral roll of their constitutions back home in India. The individual should also be an Indian citizen with a valid Indian passport since the individual is not supposed to have gained citizenship in any other country. After registration NRIs are given a Voter ID card (EPIC -Electors Photo Identity Card) similar to those given to residents of India But NRIs can at the moment only vote by going to their polling booth in India; no online or postal voting as yet. Requirements of NRI Voter Card and Eligibility.

Every Indian citizen aged 18 years or above, possesses a valid Indian passport but is living outside the country without having acquired citizenship by another country can apply to obtain an NRI Voter Card. The individual needs to be resident of India permanently, as his or her name will be introduced to the list of voters of that constituency. In order to apply, NRI must provide a self-attested copy of a passport (including the first and final page with details and Indian address), a valid visa, work permit or residence permit as evidence of residing in a foreign country. They also need a passport-size color photograph and the residential proof will be considered as the Indian address in the passport. Application is done in Form 6A in the Election Commission of India site and the voter ID is provided. This would mean that even the Indian expatriates would still be able to take part in the democratic process of the country even when they were abroad
